7 Years of Bad Luck

Title: there's a myth that you get seven years of bad luck for breaking a mirror.

Also, looking back on the past seven years of my life, a lot of things happened and my self-image has been shattered and put back together so many times I don't even know. Not to mention just regular life happening: moved from Finland to Scotland, from Scotland to Denmark, from Denmark back to Finland, from Finland to South Korea (albeit temporarily), gained 30 kg, lost some of it, fell in love, out of love, lusted, hated, was happy and unhappy, and everything in between.

Sorry. Got lost on the Memory Lane there for a while.

Uhmm. This was kind of very depressing piece of work. My original concept was a little different, so I meant to paint two self-portraits – one really ugly, and one really pretty, but neither accurate to reality. I started working on the ugly one first, and that in itself was really depressing. I worked with a small mirror, and the look you see on my face is pure self-loathing. Haha.

The problem is...

I worked on the painting for a few days and then suddenly I realised that instead of being really ugly, like I started out, it just turned out to look like me. Shit.

Anyway, I'm not sure if this is 100% finished, but I'm running out of time with this course and all the others, and the semester approaching its end way faster than I'd like it to. So, I might update this picture, or not. Thus far, there it is.

Haha. Another one or two paintings to finish by Thursday (depending on what idea I'll settle for). Toil, mortal, toil!!
